I was recently inspired by my dog Ellie, and the Elizabethan style portraits (Time period of 1558-1603 England). The thought behind the paintings are “that was then, this is now,” The idea of changing ideals and living standards in modern times versus Elizabethan times. Our relationship with our animals now and our lavish or abundant lifestyles. The paintings are reminiscent of Tudor style under paintings or line work, which I think are just as beautiful as the finished paintings themselves. Let me know what you think of this! I did these paintings fairly quickly and to be frank they are more drawing than painting. I enjoyed being able to be gestural and expressive yet exact with the point of a pencil. Special thanks to my brother and dog who were non too excited to model, but graciously did so anyways.
