I had great fun experimenting with this lantern design. The first annual AMP Festival, celebrating female artists was held, August 26th. My lantern as well as many others were shown there, the proceeds for the lanterns went to the OKC Girls Art School.
For the lantern I used acrylic paint, tissue paper and clear varnish.
Process Explanation: First I painted a base layer of gradient blue, with splattered white paint. Then I placed strips of painters tape and painted another layer of blue paint, creating a striped pattern. Taking off all the tape, I then spray painted the entire globe white and placed tissue paper on the entire surface. There fore in the day the globe has one design, with yellow and blue vertical stripes (tissue paper)-and when a light is placed inside, it glows a completely different lined pattern! In the dark with out a light it also glows in the dark. I splattered clear glow in the dark paint on the globe, but unfortunately the glow in the dark paint wouldn’t photograph. That’s the run down on all the crazy steps to make this lantern. I think it turned out super cool, tell me what you think!
