My mom and I took a trip to Destin, FL last September. We had a great time, going right before the hurricane hit. It was cloudy and cool so we didn’t get too hot or sun burned. Only down fall was the ocean was pretty choppy. Most mornings I caught the amazing sunrises and we even caught a few equally amazing sunsets. I took to sketching the beach scene one morning, first with watercolor, and then came to my senses…watercolor is not good for quick sketching and does not mix with a lot of wind. So I used some of my mom’s pencils she so wisely packed. I captured, the beach and also a lovely couple from Tennessee. Had some great chats with strangers, funny how art makes people more willing to socialize! Got many warnings not to get sunburned from beautifully tanned and sun burned folks, had a nice talk about international cultures. Compliment on my sketch, from a beach bum; a marriage proposal of sort, from a guy, that was a NY transplant (If anyone’s interested, I know where to find him ;D). Who knew sketching could be so fun? Generally I have to force myself to sketch, but the idea of potential interesting conversations, is quite an incentive!
