I entered the Canadian County free fair last minute, 3 works in the professionals, painting category. I received a 5th place ribbon for my Honeycomb Domino’s piece. I was surprised and happy that I got anything at all! The judge was an Art Professor, Larry Clements from Redlands Community College. I talked to him later on the phone, very nice man. In the afternoon, I stuck around after he judged and put ribbons on the student work. It was a delight to spend time with the other volunteers.
But in between dropping off my work, and waiting for judging to start , I had a couple of hours to kill. El Reno did not disappoint. I walked around the County fair taking videos and photos of the animals, and petting them, then I went to the library, started reading a book, The immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks, which I highly recommended. Then grabbed some tacos at Tacos de Jalisco-amazing-YUUUMM! Where I met a sweet elderly lawyer, dressed to rival Matlock, he let me join him while I waited for my to-go order. He made me feel comfortable as I didn’t want to take up a large table just for waiting, since the place was packed or stand awkwardly by the register. He graciously agreed, and I was grateful, even though it was only a few minutes he was a rarely seen gentleman that kept the conversation going in between bites of his giant taco salad. It really was such a magical day. If you want to know one thing about me, I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE the county fair, hope you do too!!
