Family Portrait in Acrylic

You read write! I did a 3 person portrait in acrylic paint, 24″x 30″x 1 1/2″ . I painted one of my best friends, her sister and grandfather. It was such a sweet painting to do! Hope you enjoy the process below! Let me know what you think!

*Side note: In the past I would have used oil paints to do a portrait. I am moving away from oil paints to cut down on potential fumes and toxins ie turpentine blah blah. Having said this, I like how acrylic paints dry quickly…but then again they dry REALLY quickly! I am inspired to keep challenging myself to use acrylic paints for portraits and my other works to gain better skill and confidence. If you have a tips of the trade, when it comes to painting a portrait with acrylic paint, holler at me! I did use fluid retarder and it did help some. I also found how warm the room was affected how fast the paint dried. Another thing I realized, a digital photo reference with great resolution when you zoom in is essential to a successful portrait! Keep at it friends, practice, practice, practice!
